I’ve had the privilege of racing in Kona four times, and during the 1980s and 1990s, I also competed twice in the ITU Long Distance World Championship right here in Nice. These races have left a lasting mark on me, because Nice is truly unique in the world of triathlon — a place where history, challenge, and emotion come together.

To all the age groupers heading to France: you’re about to experience something truly unforgettable. The race week atmosphere begins building as early as Tuesday, with unmissable events, athlete gatherings, and moments that will stay with you long after race day.
My advice? Don’t miss a single event. Every moment, from the welcome ceremonies to the final sprint, is part of something bigger — an immersive experience that goes far beyond just completing the race.

Ironman Nice is designed for well-rounded, highly prepared athletes. The day begins with a swim in the Mediterranean Sea, where the water can be unpredictable, sometimes calm, sometimes choppy. The bike course is both strategic and demanding, with long climbs, technical descents, and breathtaking views — a true test of endurance, skill, and smart pacing.
And then comes the run: a powerful, emotional final stretch along the iconic Promenade des Anglais, where every step brings you closer to a finish line that has become legendary in triathlon history.
These roads have seen it all since the 1980s, when the Triathlon de Nice was one of the few events in the world that the very best athletes couldn’t afford to miss.
